There should be a separare directorate for IT in Rly. Bd. and separate IT department in Railways under a suitable professional Head with requisite qualification and attempts be made to develop common softwares for use in all Railways which will bring uniformity in working and all the data should be linked with servers located at the various Railway Headquarters and also all the Management Information Reports should be designed in such a way that requires least manual intervention so that duplicacy of efforts may be avoided. A proper IT plan may be drawn and staff should be properly trained which uniformity of software can facilitate. A suitable IT plan can do wonders for Railway in cutting costs and efforts. Also softwares should be designed in a way that may fix direct accountability and responsibility directly at each level as required in Administrative reforms and era of RTI.BY progressing toward paperless working environemnt, Rly. can contribute towards environment conservation and win carbon credits for the same.

As soon as new PCs are provided to the staff/officer, it may be ensured that the concerned staff/officer has basic knowledge of hardware. Due to lack of minimum knowledge about hardware, the AMC people are simply exploiting. For example, if a printer fails to perform and the AMC people are asked to repair. They will simply put some amount as repair charges. Unfortunately, no one in the staff/officer level could check the credibility of the claim of AMC contractor. Finally, the bill is passed, without any credibility. Such cases are common.
